DESCRIPTION
This free crochet baby blanket pattern is a Level 2 – Easy project that’s perfect for experienced beginners and anyone looking for a timeless baby blanket for that special baby in your life.
It combines simple stitches for a beautiful baby blanket. A small heart is made in the popcorn stitch in the bottom right corner, which adds a sweet touch and beautiful texture, and the included digital chart makes the heart easy to follow even if you are newer to reading charts.
Finished with soft picot edging along the top and bottom borders and made with soft washable yarn, this blanket is both beautiful and practical for everyday baby use.
There is a full video tutorial included to aid in making this heart baby blanket.
YARN
The yarn used for the Lullaby Loves Blanket is Lion Brand Yarn Baby Soft yarn. I used the color “Parfait Print”, which is a “white, pastel pink, and bubblegum pink” gradient yarn.
Baby Soft yarn is a DK weight 3 yarn that is an acrylic blend yarn and easy to care for and very soft.
It is a 60% acrylic and 40% nylon yarn making it durable for everyday use.
There’s 367 yards/335 meters per 4 oz/113 grams.
The yarn is machine washable and and dryable, which is what is needed for a baby blanket.
There are 11 colors in the Baby Soft yarn line and 3 different types of skein colors: solid, print, and pompadour.
Depending on the color type determines the length and weight per skein, so pay attention that when choosing your colors.
I used “Parfait Print” for the blanket, and I love how the color works up in a blanket.
Varying shades of pink are sprinkled throughout the blanket, and it really pops and look so pretty with the popcorn stitch detailing.

DIFFICULTY
The Lullaby Loves Blanket is considered a Level 2 – Easy pattern, which is good for a confident beginner. I also included a full video tutorial to make it approachable for all!
The majority of the pattern is worked in extended single crochet, which is a twist to a normal single crochet that we all love.
Instead of of yarning over and pulling through the two loops to complete the stitch like normal, you yarn over and pull through one, and then yarn over and pull through both loops
This creates a taller stitch than a normal single crochet, which is why it is called an extended single crochet.
This also creates a more flexible fabric because the stitches aren’t as tight.
The drape in the Lullaby Loves Blanket is so pretty and pairs well with the variegated yarn.
The picot border is made using chain stitches and then slip stitching back into the chains to create a little ball.
The picot is then secured to the border with a single crochet.

Yes, but the gauge of the blanket may be affected, so it may turn out longer/shorter or wider/skinnier.
When a gauge does not meet the pattern, it also affects how much yardage is used, so you may need more/less skeins.

Too many stitches in a 4″x4″ swatch?

The note that Rows 7–41 use a separate chart is especially helpful. If someone wants to widen the blanket, would you keep the heart at its current scale and add stitches to the margins, or rescale the heart chart too? I work on crochet chart tools, and that margin-vs-scale decision is one of the places beginners seem to get stuck.
