DESCRIPTION
The Heirloom Hearts Blanket is a classic knit baby blanket designed with thoughtful details that make it both beautiful and practical.
It begins with a delicate picot cast on and finishes with a matching picot cast off, creating a soft, decorative edge along the top and bottom.
A garter stitch border frames the entire blanket, helping it lie flat and preventing the edges from curling while adding subtle texture.
The heart motif in the corner adds a sweet touch that makes this blanket feel special without overwhelming the design.
YARN
The yarn used for the Heirloom Hearts Blanket is Lion Brand Yarn Baby Soft. I used the color “Petal” and it is the perfect light, soft pink.

Baby Soft yarn is a DK weight 3 yarn that is an acrylic blend yarn and easy to care for and very soft.
It is a 60% acrylic and 40% nylon yarn making it durable for everyday use.
There’s 367 yards/335 meters per 4 oz/113 grams.
The yarn is machine washable and and dryable, which is what is needed for a baby blanket.
There are 11 colors in the Baby Soft yarn line and 3 different types of skein colors: solid, print, and pompadour.
Depending on the color type determines the length and weight per skein, so pay attention that when choosing your colors.
I used “Petal” for the blanket, and I love how the color works up in a blanket.
It is such a beautiful light pink. Not too harsh and bold, but soft and pretty.

DIFFICULTY
The Heirloom Hearts Blanket is considered a Level 2 – Easy pattern, which is good for a confident beginner. I also included a full video tutorial to make it approachable for all!
The majority of the pattern is worked in stockinette stitch. There is a garter stitch border around the perimeter of the blanket, so the blanket doesn’t curl.
The heart motif uses purl stitches when working stockinette stitch. you can follow along with the chart to know when to purl to create the heart.
I had not done a Picot Cast-on before, even though I had always wanted to.
Doing it for this baby blanket made me realize that it is a lot easier than I thought. No complicated stitches are used.
Similarly, the Picot Bind-off I had done before, but it is also not difficult. You do a knitted CO to add the little picots, and then BO like normal.
Just a few extra steps than a regular bind off.
In my premium version on etsy, I have several pictures to supplement the pattern, or you can watch the free full video tutorial.
The premium PDF also includes a printable chart to follow, so if you find that easier, check out the premium PDF.
And as always, I’m always happy to answer any questions!
FAQ
Is this pattern good for beginners?
Yes, this pattern is good for confident beginners. With the full video tutorial, you will be able to pause, rewind, and rewatch any sections.
The trickiest part of this pattern is the Picot Cast-On and Picot Bind-off, but if you are really struggling with them, you can always switch it to a regular Long-tail CO and a regular BO.
The Picot bottom and top border is not essential to the baby blanket. Just a fun, cute detail.
Do you have another baby blanket without a heart?
Yes, the Heirloom Hearts Blanket is the second baby blanket in the knit Baby Blanket collection.
Check out the Midnight Moon Blanket free pattern HERE.

Can I use a different yarn?
Yes, but the gauge of the blanket may be affected, so it may turn out wider/skinner, longer/shorter.
When a gauge does not meet the pattern, it also affects how much yardage is used, so you may need more/less skeins.
Can I sell items from this knit pattern?
Yes.
What if my gauge is off?
Too many stitches in a 4″x4″ swatch?
→ The fabric is too tight, so you need to go up a needle size.
Too few stitches in a 4″ x 4″ swatch?
→ The fabric is too loose, so you need to go down a needle size.

Am I crazy, or should row 10 be a purl row instead of a knit row?! I keep re-reading but row 10 being knit stitches puts 3 knit stitch rows back to back?!
You are right. Thank you for catching that!
