DESCRIPTION

The Flowers Easter Basket includes one larger basket perfect for the Easter Bunny to fill with treats and surprises, along with two smaller baskets for children to carry during Easter egg hunts.
Using the yarn amounts listed, you can actually make up to 4 small baskets total, making it easy to create extras for siblings, friends, or festive spring décor.
With grassy detailing along the bottom, pastel stripes, and tulip flowers, these baskets have a simple spring look while still being sturdy and practical.
The pattern includes 18 photo aids and a full video tutorial, making it an enjoyable project for crocheters who want to create a special handmade Easter tradition.
YARN
The yarn used for the Flowers Easter Baskets is Lion Brand Yarn Cover Story Posh Twist yarn, which was just recently released.
It is very similar to Bernat Blanket yarn, and the skeins are huge. You get a lot of yardage per skein.
I used the color “Bokchoy”, “Whipped Cream”, “Rosehip”, and “Blueberry Smoothie”.
Posh Twist yarn is a bulky weight 5 yarn that is a soft, plush chenille style yarn that is 100% polyester.
There’s 233 yards (213 meters) per 7 oz (200 g), which is a lot per skein.
The yarn is machine washable and lay flat to dry.
There are 22 colors in the Posh Twist line with some beautiful color variations.
If I had to describe the colors offered for this yarn line, I would say bold. Bright colors like “Strawberry Glow”, “Sherbet Glow” “Glow Worm”, and “Lemon Meringue”.
This color palette works well for creating amigurumi animals, which is all the rage right now.

DIFFICULTY
The Flowers Easter Baskets is considered a Level 3 – Intermediate pattern, but truly the pattern is not that hard.
The reason I rated it “Level 3” is because of the many stitches used. And if you are not a beginner crocheter, I think you will be able to do this pattern with ease especially since there is a full video tutorial included plus 18 picture aids!
The majority of the pattern is worked in single crochets and waistcoat stitch, which is a twist to a normal single crochet that we all love.
You insert the hook in between the posts of the stitch instead of where you normally put the hook for single crochet, so this creates a very dense, tight stitch, which is perfect for baskets.
The loop stitch is used for the green grass portion at the bottom of the basket, and the tulips and leaves are made using a series of chains and half double crochets.
It looks complicated, but it really is simple using simple stitches.
The handle is made sturdy by crocheting over chenille stems (pipe cleaners!). I also used chenille stems around the main body of the big basket to create additional stability.

Is this pattern good for beginners?
This pattern is rated Level 3 Intermediate, so it may be a bit challenging for complete beginners.
However, the pattern includes 18 picture aids and a full video tutorial, so there is plenty of guidance along the way.
Because of these extra resources, motivated beginners may still find it manageable and a good opportunity to learn some new skills.

Yes, but the gauge of the basket may be affected, so it may turn out with different dimensions.
When a gauge does not meet the pattern, it also affects how much yardage is used, so you may need more/less skeins.

What if my gauge is off?
Too many stitches in a 4″x4″ swatch?
→ The fabric is too tight, so you need to go up a hook size.
Too few stitches in a 4″ x 4″ swatch?
→ The fabric is too loose, so you need to go down a hook size.

- Check hook size for each gauge and adjust accordingly in the pattern to meet both gauges listed.
- You will be working the majority of the baskets in a continuous round. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.
- The Base is made first, and then the Main Body of the basket.
- To switch colors, stop the last st in the old color with 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over with new color and pull through both loops to complete the st unless stated otherwise.
- Crochet over the yarn not in use when two colors are used in a rnd by rolling the unused color behind and slightly below to help hide show-through.
- Optional chenille stems are used for stability of the baskets and handles.
- 2 small baskets of C and 2 small baskets of D can be made with 1 ball of each color.

SPECIAL STITCHES
Magic Ring (MR) – With tail hanging down, place tail over first 2 fingers and lp the yarn around to create an “x” over fingers. Turn hand over to reveal 2 strands of yarn and with hook facing down, place hook underneath Strand 1. Pull Strand 2 under Strand 1 and twist hook so it’s facing up. Carefully slide fingers out of the lp, yo, and pull through. Work into the lp and tighten the tail once finished with Rnd 1 of the pattern.
Waistcoat Stitch (wc) (watch video HERE) – Insert hook in between the posts of st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through both lps on hook.
Loop Stitch (lp st) – Insert hook in st, wrap yarn around index finger to create a lp, move your hook up and over strand closest to you, yo strand furthest away from you, pull yarn through the st, release your finger and pinch lp created, yo and pull through both lps on hook.

How much yarn do I need for two large baskets? I don’t need to make the small ones. thank you.
There is only one large basket, but if you do not want to make the two small ones, subtract about 105 yards of pink and 105 yards of blue for the totals listed. 🙂
