The Evergarden Blanket is a colorful crochet design that comes in three sizes: baby, lapghan, and throw. It uses gradient-colored yarn to create striking pops of color that resemble tulips blooming across the fabric, giving the blanket its garden-inspired name. Finished with an interesting and textured border, this pattern also includes a full video tutorial to guide you every step of the way.
How pretty is this colorful crochet blanket?!
Inspired by tulip flowers, the Evergarden Blanket uses Mandala Gradient yarn to gradually fade from deep burgandy to a light pink color. Two skeins are used at a time for the Tulip Flower/Puff sections, so they really pop in color contrast.
The mini ladder stitch is used throughout the blanket, which creates a stacked stitch appearance. The Mandala Gradient yarn creates great stitch definition with this stitch, and it perfectly shows off the gradual fade of the colors without the stitch being too overbearing.
The contrasting skein creates an opposite gradient effect, so the puff stitch triplets pop out nicely against the main blanket fabric. It works out so that each “shade” is about one puff stitch triplet row for the lapghan size.
No I did not plan that, but it works out so perfectly let’s pretend that I did.
DESCRIPTION
Made using Mandala Gradient yarn, the Evergarden blanket fades from dark to light purple/pink, back to dark, and ends with light pink.
There are sections of “tulip” stripes throughout the blanket, which are puff triplet stitches.
Depending on the size you make will determine how many puff triplet stripes there will be for your blanket.
There are 3 sizes available: baby, lapghan, and throw. The sample was made in the lapghan size, which is 37.25″ x 50″.
The puff triplets start with the light pink section, fade to dark by the middle of the blanket, and end with light pink again.
To switch between the two skeins throughout the blanket, I carried the color not being used up the side to cut down on weaving in tails. I did this for the entire blanket besides when there the big sections of only Mini Ladder Stitch.
The yarn being carried up the side will be hid by the border at the end. You can just crochet over the yarn being carried up the side. A simple, textured border is added at the end to finish off the blanket.

YARN
The Evergarden Blanket is made using Lion Brand Mandala Gradient yarn.
I used the colorway “Burgandy“, but there are some beautiful color choices that would be fun to see the gradient shades!
Lion Brand Mandala Gradient yarn is machine washable and dryable, and is 90% acrylic and 10% nylon. The added nylon is great for blankets because that aids in helping the blanket stay durable and the yarn strong.
I used the recommended hook size that was on the label, 5.5 mm/I hook, and I feel like that gives the perfect drape for this blanket. Paired with the Mini Ladder Stitch, and it is *chef’s kiss* beautiful.
The yarn cakes are 5.29 oz or 295 yards per skein, so there is a good amount of yards in each skein.
On the yarn label it says, “Note: Balls of yarn from the same dye lot may differ due to the unique effect within each color. This is the charm of the yarn.”
I did find that to be the case. There was one section of Light Pink, where it all of a sudden had a dark splash of Burgandy. I was not bothered by it because I do think that is the charm of the yarn. It makes it look a bit hand-dyed and unique.
I used 5 (6, 9) cakes of yarn for the three different sizes offered.

DIFFICULTY
The Evergarden Blanket is considered a Level 2 – Easy crochet pattern.
Mini Ladder Stitch is used through the majority of the pattern, with some Puff Triplet Stitches sprinkled in stripes through the pattern.
After a Puff Triplet, Front Post Single Crochet is used to help the Puff Stitches pop away from the fabric more.

The Mini Ladder Stitch is very similar to the Linen Crochet Stitch, but instead of staggering the stitches, the single crochet stitches are stacked on top of each other. Like a ladder.
The Puff Triplets are made on the wrong side, so that they puff out on the right side.

- Pattern is written for 3 sizes: Baby (Lapghan, Throw). Highlight your size throughout the pattern to avoid confusion. Pictures are shown in the Lapghan size.
- You will be using 2 skeins of yarn, one starting from the outside (skein 1), and one starting from the center (skein 2), to alternate the gradient between the rows and Puff Stitch Triplets. Carry the unused skein up the edge of the blanket to minimize weaving in ends. It will be crocheted over when the border is added.
- When a skein is finished, start a new skein from the center/outside to match the gradient shade just finished.
- You will be making the blanket from bottom up in rows and adding the border at the end.
- The turning ch 1 does not count as a st.
