As the weather starts to warm up, I’m always looking for tansitional pieces that work well for cold mornings at night, but can easily be taken off or thrown back on if needed.

That’s why I designed the Triple Tie Cardi!

This crocheted cardigan has 3 removeable tie closures, so you can wear it fully tied, open, or a combination of the two!

Made with simple crochet stitches, this cardigan comes with 3 video tutorials and several pictures to aid you in making the Triple Tie cardi. I designed it with beginner crocheters in mind, so I really tried to create helpful pictures and videos that go step-by-step to make the cardigan.

It is also sized for 9 different sizes, so if you’re looking for a simple crochet cardigan that works up quickly, the Triple Tie Cardi is it!

DESCRIPTION

The Triple Tie Cardi is a beginner+ crochet pattern that includes 3 video tutorials to help aid you in crocheting this stylish cardigan.

There are 3 half icord string closures that are fully removable, so you can really customize how you wear the cardigan! The tie buttonholes on the edges are small enough that they aren’t noticeable, so you can wear it fully open when the weather warms up and transitions to spring.

It is a drop shoulder style cardi made from the bottom up, and then split for the sleeves. The only seam is at the shoulders. The sleeves are then worked in the round, so it works up quickly!

Less seaming = happier crocheters

I made the sample cardigan in the color “Slate“, but there are so many beautiful colors in the Lion Brand Yarn Wool-Ease DK colorway!

I think it would be beautiful to do some colorblocking on the cardigan.

If you end up doing stripes or colorblocking, I’d love to see! I’m especially crushing on the colors “Pink” and “Taupe” and think that would be beautiful for Spring!

And did you know that I made a sister KNIT pattern to this pattern? You can check it out HERE.

YARN

The Triple Tie Cardi is made using Lion Brand Wool-Ease DK yarn.

I used the colorway “Slate” because I like the neutral color but with the undertones of blue in it.

Lion Brand Wool-Ease DK yarn is machine washable and dryable, which is what I always look for and appreciate with my handmade wearables.

Wool-Ease DK yarn is is 80% acrylic and 20% wool yarn with 232 yards in 3 oz.

It comes in 18 different colors, all of which are so cute! I especially love the Pink, Lavender, and Taupe shades. Gets me so excited for Spring!

I used 1085 yards or 5 balls of yarn for my sample medium that I made, but I have yardage for all 9 sizes that can be found below.

I have a full yarn review video of Wool-Ease DK yarn that can be found HERE.

And bonus – I am giving away FREE Wool-Ease DK yarn on my youtube channel and my instagram.

There will be TWO winners that will receive 3 skeins each. So if you want to try out the yarn, head on over to this video to enter!

And if you want to keep in the loop of sales that Lion Brand Yarn is running, sign up for my newsletter because I’ll keep you in the loop for when the sale is good.

DIFFICULTY

The Triple Tie Cardi is considered a beginner+ crochet pattern.

Extended single crochet is used through the majority of the pattern, with half double crochet used for some of the ribbing and Back Post HDC and Front Post HDC used for the bottom hem, cuffs, and collar.

Half Icords are used for the string tie closures. I have a full video tutorial to help you make those.

A full video tutorial is available to help you make the cardigan.

  1. Hi! I am interested in this pattern (and also fairly new to crochet so this might be a silly question) but do you think using a cotton dk yarn would work for this?

    1. Not a silly question at all! Yes, I think a cotton DK yarn would work for this. Just do a 4″ x 4″ gauge swatch to check and make sure that the gauge is the same as the gauge in the pattern, so it doesn’t turn out too big/too small.
