DESCRIPTION
The Scallop Basket is a fun and easy crochet project that’s both cute and practical. It’s perfect for holding toys, yarn, or home essentials and adds a pop of handmade charm wherever you put it. The scallop edge gives it a playful touch, and the two-color design makes it easy to customize for any space.
The basket is worked from the bottom up using simple stitches in a continuous round, so there are no seams to worry about. You’ll start with a sturdy base, then build up the sides with easy stitches that give the basket structure.

The best part is the scallop detail. When you switch to color B, you’ll create pretty shell stitches with the wrong side facing, fold them down, and then continue with waistcoat stitch to finish the basket. It’s a simple technique that looks so polished and adds the perfect finishing touch.
I used Lion Brand Yarn Hometown, which is thick, soft, and super durable — just right for baskets. It also comes in tons of colors, so you can go bright and bold or keep it neutral and cozy.
If you’re looking for a quick and satisfying project, the Scallop Basket is it! The pattern includes lots of pictures and a full video tutorial to help you every step of the way. You’ll end up with a cute, sturdy basket you’ll love using around the house.
YARN
The yarn used for the Scallop Basket is Lion Brand Yarn Hometown — a bestselling, classic weight 6 yarn that’s perfect for creating the thick, sturdy fabric needed for a crochet basket.
I chose this yarn for its wide variety of colors (47 colors to choose from!), making it easy to mix and match shades for the two-tone design.

It’s made from 100% acrylic, which makes it durable, easy to care for, and ideal for home projects.
The solid colors include 81 yards (74 meters) per 5 oz (142 grams) skein, while the prints offer 64 yards (59 meters) per 4 oz (113 grams) skein.

I used Phoenix Azalea as the main color and Hoboken Honey as color B. Phoenix Azalea blends magenta, yellow, and periwinkle, and I knew my two girls would love having this bright pink in their room, which is why I chose it as the main color. I plan to let them use the Scallop Basket in their room to help keep things a little more organized.
Hoboken Honey is a soft khaki tan that adds the perfect neutral touch to balance the bright main color.
For the sister knit pattern, the Ruffle Basket, I used “Athens Blue Sky” and “Catskills Corner” for the two colors.
I love how these two pair together as well.
