The Midnight Moon Blanket is a knit baby blanket that is the perfect gender-neutral blanket that can be made in any color!
Made with a moon in the bottom right corner, it adds interest without being overly complicated.
This knit baby blanket is worked up quickly with the majority of the blanket made using stockinette stitch. Considered intermediate, there is a chart, full video tutorial, and picture aids to help you confidently make this baby blanket.
Made with simple stitches, this baby blanket looks complicated with the moon design, but the design is just made with purl stitches instead of knit for the stockinette stitch.
DESCRIPTION
The Midnight Moon Blanket is made from the bottom up with garter stitch framing the blanket.
The blanket has a scalloped top and bottom border as well for added detailing.
The best part of the blanket is how you can make it for a boy or a girl baby since moons are gender-neutral.
I made the sample in a gray color, but I am itching to see it in blue, yellow, pink, and purple!

Simple stitches are used for the pattern, so it is a relaxing, enjoyable make.

YARN
The Lullaby Luna Blanket is made using Baby Soft yarn by Lion Brand Yarn.
I used the color “Grey Print” because I wanted a neutral color, but there are so many good colors to choose from in the Baby Soft yarn line.
Lion Brand Baby Soft yarn is machine washable and dryable, which is a must for baby blankets. With how many messes happen with babies, nobody has time to hand wash baby items!
Baby Soft yarn is is 60% acrylic and 40% Nylon yarn with 459 yards/140 grams. A lot of yardage per skein!
It comes in 16 different colors, all of which are so cute!
I used 750 yds or 3 skeins of Baby Soft yarn. If you made it a little less long, you could make it with only 2 skeins because I didn’t use much of the third skein.

DIFFICULTY
The Midnight Moon Blanket is considered an intermediate knit pattern because the top scalloped border is grafted onto the blanket using Kitchener Stitch. I have an in-depth video tutorial showing how to do the Kitchener Stitch though.

NOTES
- The blanket is made from the bottom up and starts with a scalloped border made in multiples of 6 plus 5.
- Follow the chart between the stitch markers placed on Row 10; the right-hand side of the chart has odd numbers (RS) and the left side has even numbers (WS). K the odd rows and p the even rows, except p on the RS in shaded area indicated in the chart.
- There is a printable chart to follow that you can purchase HERE or a digital chart HERE that allows you to track your individual progress in the chart section. Watch the video below if you are not sure how to use the digital files to mark your individual progress.
- The Scalloped Top Border is made by putting the live sts on hold, making the border, and using the Kitchener st to graft it to the top of the blanket. (Video of Kitchener stitch found below or HERE.)

ASSEMBLY
Using Kitchener stitch, graft Scalloped Top Border to live sts on Row 212 (see Pictures 4-5 to prepare blanket to do Kitchener Stitch and Pictures 6-9 on Kitchener Stitch repeat).
First, we need to prepare the blanket and the border so that the strand of yarn is attached correctly and ready to be grafted.
You are now ready to do the Kitchener stitch to graft the scalloped border to the top of the blanket.
Front knit off, front purl on, back purl off, back knit on; rep until 1 st remains on each needle, front knit off, back purl off
And that’s how you make the Midnight Moon Blanket!
