I’m excited to release my next free crochet pattern for beginners! The Evening Chic Scarf is considered level Easy for crochet. I have a full video tutorial to go with it to help you make this Beginner crochet scarf. So scroll down if you work best crocheting while watching the video.
The Evening Chic Scarf is my newest pattern made with Lion Brand Yarn (my favorite yarn to work with).
This beginner scarf is also a Lion Brand Yarn Kit, so you can get the free pattern as well as all of the yarn to make it! And you can customize the colors in the kit to make it in the colors you choose.

DESCRIPTION
The Evening Chic Scarf uses 2 different yarn weights for texture and interest. Shaggy Chic Yarn is used for the contrasting stripes staggered throughout the crochet design, and the Linen Stitch crochet pattern is used for the bulk of the scarf.
The Linen stitch is a great beginners crochet stitch to learn as it is only single crochets and chains done.
The scarf works up very quickly with the weight 7 Shaggy Chic yarn and oversized hook for the linen stitch, so it is a quick crochet project.
I plan on wearing mine out to see a few plays with friends this winter, date nights with my husband, and probably sports games for my kids, too. It is so versatile and easy to dress up or down.
The Evening Chic Scarf is a great all-around crochet pattern is is perfect for beginner crocheters.
YARN
The Evening Chic Scarf is made using Haute Stitches Shaggy Chic yarn and Hue and Me Yarn.
Hue and Me yarn is a classic staple that is good for so many projects. It is a weight 5 yarn, so it works up quickly and has great stitch definition.
There are so many colors to choose form in the Hue and Me line with Lion Brand Yarn, and 6 more colors were recently added. (After I made the scarf, so now I’m itching to try out the new colors!)
I chose the color “Desert” for the sample of the Evening Chic Scarf I made, but I would love to see the scarf made in “Warm Stone” for Hue and Me yarn and “Latte” in Shaggy Chic yarn.
I think a monochromatic look would be gorgeous for the Evening Chic Scarf, too.
Blue is my favorite color, so this Hue and Me in the color “Ozone” has me drooling. I love that hue of blue.
And the “Baby Blue” shade of blue in the Shaggy Chic yarn is not too baby, baby, blue. Like a pretty, muted light blue rather than a vibrant, baby looking blue.

The Haute Stitches Shaggy Chic yarn is a new yarn from Lion Brand Yarn that was recently released.
When I visited NYC last year, I was shocked at how many faux fur items were worn. I live in South Carolina, so it takes a while for the latest fashion trends to work its way down there.
Seeing how chic everyone looked in New York City in their faux fur, I can see why Lion Brand Yarn made this yarn.
The yarn has a lot of “shag” coming off of each strand, so that is why it is considered a weight 7 yarn. There are 12 colors to choose from, some of which are very vibrant and fun.
I especially love the shade “Bubblegum Pink” which is the light pink color in the circle thumbnails.
DIFFICULTY
The Evening Chic Scarf is considered a Beginner+ pattern, not because the pattern is especially difficult or confusing, but because you need to be able to feel for your stitches when working with Shaggy Chic because the fur works up in such a way that you cannot easily see where the next stitch is.

Single crochets and chains are the only crochet stitches used in this beginner pattern, so if you know how to do those two stitches, you can make it.
While working with the faux fur yarn, I like to use my thumb and finger to pinch the crochet fabric and feel for the next stitch.
It is also important to count the crochet stitches at the end of every row working with faux fur yarn so that you do not accidentally drop/add a stitch for that row.
Once you get in the groove working with Shaggy Chic yarn, it works up quickly and easily.

- Lion Brand Yarn Haute Stitches Shaggy Chic, weight 7 (100% polyester, 35 yds/200 g)
- 30 yds – Ebony (A)
- Lion Brand Yarn Hue and Me, weight 5 (80% acrylic/20% wool, 137 yds/125 g)
- 160 yds – Desert (B)
- US M/N-13/9.0 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle

- While using the Shaggy Chic yarn, it is best to use your thumb to feel for the stitches as it is hard to see.
