Canada Pillow Free Crochet Pattern

You ready for a Canada Day crochet pattern?

Introducing the Canada Pillow! A free crochet pattern made in collaboration with Lion Brand Yarn.

Lion Brand is my favorite yarn to work with, and so I always enjoy collaborating with them to bring you free patterns!

DESCRIPTION

The Canada Pillow is a beautiful pillow made using intarsia crochet techniques. Using 2 different colors, a maple leaf is crocheted in red, boxed in white, with 2 panels of red on either side.

I used intarsia rather than tapestry crochet for this pillow because the maple leaf is rather large, and I did not want to waste yarn by carrying it through the design.

I had a red bobbin on the right and left side, white bobbins for 2 sections of white on either side of the maple leaf, and a red bobbin for the maple leaf design. There’s minimal color changes, so it worked up pretty fast and quick.

My kind of of a crochet design!

THE YARN

For this crochet pillow, I used #4 worsted weight yarn. I chose Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand Yarn in the colors “Scarlet” and “White”.

Vanna’s Choice yarn is one of the very first yarns I started working with when I first started crocheting. It has a special place in my heart.

I love the color choices and the ease of availability. You can almost always find Vanna’s Choice at your local Michael’s or JoAnn store.

DIFFICULTY

This pillow is considered an intermediate pattern because of the intarsia crochet technique used, but I would say this is a good pattern to start with if you are new to intarsia crochet!

With minimal color changes, the design works up quickly, and there are only 5 bobbins of color to juggle in color blocks, so it shouldn’t be too overwhelming.

And, as always, I’d love to answer any questions if you need help along the way!
