Wanting a new knit stitch to add to your knit library?
The Bubble Knit Stitch is a beginner stitch that uses only the knit stitch when worked in the round.
The stitch is worked 5 rows of knit, and then the 6th row is worked every 4 stitches in the round 4 rounds below.
This cinches the fabric and makes the fabric bubble out every 4 stitches.
I especially love to do this knit stitch with alternating colors because it really makes the bubble pop out and defined more.
I used the Bubble Knit Stitch on my Cheerful Stockings, and you can get the free pattern tutorial (with the full video tutorial) HERE!
MULTIPLE
When worked in the round, the starting stitch count is a multiple of 4.
STITCH REPEAT
The stitch repeat is 12 rounds – 6 rounds for a bubble and another 6 rounds for a staggered bubble.
NOT REVERSIBLE
This knit stitch pattern is not reversible because it cinches the fabric only on the right side only.
DIFFICULTY
The bubble knit stitch is considered by some as intermediate, but I believe it falls more in the easy category.
Simple knit stitch is used throughout the stitch pattern, but you do need to know how to knit in a stitch 4 rounds below.
If unsure or you need a refresher, I have a full video tutorial below, as well as detailed pictures.
PATTERN IDEAS
The bubble knit stitch works with a wide variety of designs.
Scarves, hats, garments, blankets, and of course stockings.
I used the bubble knit stitch on the Cheerful Stockings that I designed.
You can buy the Lion Brand knit kit pattern HERE.
And the PDF pattern can be bought on my ETSY, RAVELRY, and MY SHOP.
YARN
For this video demonstration, I used Color Theory yarn by Lion Brand Yarn.
The color selection is great. I used 5 different colors:
